This Dutch De Zeven Provincien display model was specially designed & built by the plank on bulkhead method (joining multiple small pieces of wood like Rosewood, Mahogany, Teak and other exotic tropical wood together on the hull). The tall ship model is built exactly to scale as the original Zeven Provincien was with many details. The task required skillful craftsmen hundreds of hours to accomplish.
The Zeven Provincien was a Dutch flagship of the line, launched in 1665 and armed with 80 cannons. Zeven Provincien loosely translates as the Seven Provinces, since the Dutch Republic in the 17th century consisted of seven rather independant lands. Admiral Michiel de Ruyter used the ship as his flagship in the 2nd and 3rd Anglo-Dutch Wars. The De Zeven Provincien fought hard in many sea battles with it's greatest fight being the Battle of the Texel. The ship was badly beaten up in the Battles of Barfleur & La Houge and in 1694 she was dismantled. In 2008 construction of a replica of De Zeven Provincien was begun.
The display model measures 36.7" long from bow to stern. It's a famous ship model that will be conversation piece for any room or office.
